Come, quando, perché

Paola (Danièle Gaubert) has married Marco (Philippe Leroy), who is from an established aristocratic family. At a party, she meets her husband’s longtime friend Alberto (Horst Buchholz), who has returned to Turin for business reasons after several years in Argentina. Alberto extends his stay because of her and makes no secret of his feelings for her. The two gradually get closer. In the original Italian title of the director’s last film, the third word is “perche”, or “why”, and this question interested Pietrangeli far more than the “with whom” of the international title. Pietrangeli died prematurely while shooting COME, QUANDO, PERCHÉ; the film was completed by Valerio Zurlini. (hjf)
